PT. 2 Brown Butter Poetry & Vibe Open Mic

Brown Butter Poetry & Vibe Open Mic

Tuesday August 20th, I hosted the second series of Brown Butter Poetry & Vibe open mic presented by Vow to Self at Daily Press in BK. Once again, the turnout was stellar.

It was a night of first timers sharing on the stage, which made it even more memorable and inspirational. People from different parts of New York; Brooklyn, Harlem, The Bronx, Queens, Long Island, people from California, all came together for this space. Wow.

Need I mention the courage it takes to express yourself in a room full of strangers? A lot. So huge shout to everyone who did, and those who came to vibe!

I received an overwhelming response of messages that night and the following day about how inspired people felt when they left. To the point where they started writing new poems! Y’all are truly amazing.

Our feature Njambi was a powerhouse that sparked the room with poems about her Kenyan roots, being a black woman, growing up in Brooklyn, and love’s journey. Dj Gflamee lit up the night with a smooth balance of Afrobeats and Hip Hop / R & B once again.

To wrap up the night, I performed a few poems from Brown Butter with guitar accompaniment by Franky Payne. It was a night of dope expressions, different from our first open mic and that’s what’s so beautiful about it. At each vibe you never know what you’re gonna get, Word to Forrest Gump.

As always, if you have a vow you wanna share, dm it to @vowtoself + we’ll post it on our page. Women Make The World Go Round t-shirts are now available for sale as well! Make a statement with its yellow vibrance.

Hope to see you at the next vibe! September 16th, save the date. 😉
